Vinod Singh: Chandigarh’s Acoustic Voice Bringing Classical Soul to a New-Age Sound

CHANDIGARH: In a music scene where trends can change overnight, singer and guitarist Vinod Singh is taking a more personal route: letting the voice, the lyrics and the guitar do the talking. Rooted in Chandigarh and performing across the Tricity and other parts of North India, he is bringing together the discipline of Indian classical music and the immediacy of acoustic performance to shape an identity of his own.

Ten Years of Training, One Distinctive Musical Direction

Singh’s sound has been shaped by a ten-year journey in Indian classical music. The training developed his understanding of pitch, rhythm, breath control and expression—skills that now sit beneath his contemporary performances. Rather than keeping classical music in a separate box, he draws on that foundation to give familiar melodies and original compositions a more considered vocal approach.

A Guitar, a Voice and a Connection with the Crowd

At the centre of Singh’s live setup are his vocals and acoustic guitar. His repertoire moves between reworked Bollywood favourites, acoustic pop and romantic ballads, creating room for both familiar sing-along moments and quieter, more reflective songs. His performance experience includes cultural events and university gatherings across Chandigarh, Mohali and Shimla.

The appeal of this format is its directness. With fewer layers between the artist and the audience, a song can turn on a lyric, a vocal shift or a guitar phrase. That flexibility helps Singh adapt his set to different venues while keeping the focus on musical connection rather than spectacle.

Beyond the Stage: Working on Original Music

Live shows are only one part of Singh’s creative work. He is also developing original recordings with input from lyricists, sound engineers and music producers. For an independent artist, recorded releases offer a way to carry a musical identity beyond a particular venue or city—and give listeners something to return to after a performance ends.

The emotional territory of his original work includes love, longing, resilience and human connection. These themes are familiar, but their impact depends on how they are expressed. Singh’s aim is to bring the storytelling instincts of a live performer into songs that can stand on their own in a listener’s playlist.

Where Classical Discipline Meets Contemporary Listening

Singh’s approach reflects a balance between structure and freedom. Classical learning offers a framework for vocal control and musical phrasing, while acoustic pop and contemporary influences leave space for experimentation. For emerging musicians, the challenge is not simply to follow a trend, but to develop a sound that remains recognisable as tastes and platforms evolve.

Taking the Music Beyond Chandigarh

Digital listening platforms have become an important part of how independent musicians reach audiences outside their home markets. Singh is building his presence across services such as Spotify, YouTube, Apple Music and JioSaavn, where listeners can discover recordings beyond the live circuit. These channels complement stage performances and can help an artist build a catalogue over time.

A Work in Progress—with a Clear Sound

Vinod Singh’s musical journey brings together years of classical training, acoustic performances, original songwriting and an expanding digital presence. His story is not about an overnight breakthrough; it is about steadily shaping a sound and connecting with listeners one performance and one release at a time.

For audiences drawn to soulful vocals, guitar-led arrangements and songs that place emotion at the centre, Singh offers a contemporary independent-music perspective shaped by Chandigarh’s creative scene. As he continues to develop new material, the focus remains on the fundamentals: a strong melody, an honest performance and a song that stays with the listener.
