Malayalam superstar Mohanlal has praised Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam: The Conclusion after watching the Hindi thriller, expressing admiration for how the filmmakers have brought the popular crime franchise to its final chapter. His reaction adds a notable endorsement to a film that continues the story of Vijay Salgaonkar, one of Hindi cinema’s best-known fictional characters.
In a video message, Mohanlal said he was impressed by the way the film brought the long-running story to a satisfying conclusion. He also congratulated director Abhishek Pathak, producer Kumar Mangat Pathak, Ajay Devgn and the wider cast and crew for their work.
Mohanlal’s response carries particular significance because he originally played Georgekutty in the Malayalam Drishyam films. The Hindi franchise features Devgn as Vijay Salgaonkar, a family man who repeatedly uses his intelligence and careful planning to protect his family from a criminal investigation.
Mohanlal Appreciates the Hindi Film’s Conclusion
Mohanlal’s comments focused on the storytelling and the way the final instalment resolves the journey of its central character. Rather than limiting his response to individual performances, he acknowledged the creative team’s efforts in shaping the conclusion.
The Hindi adaptation has developed its own narrative direction, making the third instalment an important chapter for audiences familiar with the earlier films. The challenge for the filmmakers was to provide a meaningful resolution while maintaining the suspense and uncertainty that have defined the franchise.
His praise also highlights the relationship between the Malayalam original and its Hindi counterpart. Although the two versions share the same central premise, their respective filmmakers have made different creative choices as the stories have progressed.
Ajay Devgn Returns as Vijay Salgaonkar
Devgn reprises his role as Vijay Salgaonkar, whose ability to anticipate investigative moves has been central to the series. The character’s determination to protect his family, combined with his calculated responses to mounting pressure, has helped establish Drishyam as a distinctive crime-thriller franchise.
The film also features Tabu as Meera Deshmukh and Shriya Saran as Nandini. Other cast members include Rajat Kapoor, Jaideep Ahlawat, Prakash Raj, Ishita Dutta and Mrunal Jadhav.
Jaideep Ahlawat plays police officer Rajveer Singh Tomar, introducing another challenge for Vijay. The investigation and the confrontation between the two characters add to the tension surrounding the film’s central mystery.
Directed by Abhishek Pathak, Drishyam: The Conclusion arrived in cinemas on October 2, 2026. The film is positioned as the final chapter of the Hindi franchise, bringing the story of Vijay Salgaonkar to a close.
A Franchise Connecting Malayalam and Hindi Cinema
The original Malayalam Drishyam, directed by Jeethu Joseph and released in 2013, became the foundation for adaptations in other languages. Its central idea—a seemingly ordinary man using extraordinary planning to protect his family—helped the story connect with audiences across different regions.
The Hindi version began with a 2015 adaptation and subsequently expanded into a multi-film series led by Devgn. Mohanlal’s appreciation of the latest Hindi instalment offers a point of connection between the actor who originated the Malayalam role and the team that developed the Hindi storyline.
The reaction comes amid continuing discussion among viewers about the differences between the two versions. Mohanlal’s message, however, places the emphasis on the Hindi film’s own creative achievements and its attempt to deliver a conclusive ending.
With the franchise reaching this stage, the central question is no longer simply how Vijay will outmanoeuvre the authorities, but whether the final chapter provides a fitting resolution to his long-running struggle. Mohanlal’s positive response suggests that the conclusion has made a strong impression on the actor who first helped bring the story to life.
