Instagram Launches Apple TV App, Bringing Reels, Longer Videos and Live Shows to the Big Screen

Instagram has expanded its video experience beyond smartphones with the launch of a dedicated app for Apple TV. The new application allows users to watch Reels, discover content from creators and access longer videos and live shows directly on their television screens.

The app became available on October 23, 2026, marking another step in Instagram’s efforts to establish a stronger presence in the living room. The launch follows the platform’s expansion to other television devices, including Amazon Fire TV, Google TV and Samsung smart TVs.

The Apple TV app is designed primarily for watching video content on a larger screen rather than reproducing every feature available in Instagram’s smartphone application.

Instagram App Arrives on Apple TV

The dedicated Instagram app is available through the Apple TV App Store and requires tvOS 26.0 or a later version to run.

Users can explore videos from their favourite creators, discover new content and watch Reels without needing to stream everything from their phones. The application also supports longer-form creator videos and live shows, broadening the types of content viewers can enjoy on television.

The launch gives Instagram another way to reach audiences who prefer watching video on a shared screen rather than holding a smartphone.

The app is listed as a free download, although optional in-app purchases are available. Its listing also carries a 13-plus age rating and includes age-assurance and parental-control options.

Cross-Device Playback Makes Watching More Convenient

One of the key features of Instagram’s Apple TV app is cross-device playback. This allows users to resume watching content across different screens, making it easier to continue viewing after switching devices.

The feature is particularly useful for people who discover a video on their phone but want to watch it later on a television.

Users can also search for creators and other accounts through the TV application. The television-focused interface is intended to make video discovery more convenient without requiring the touch-based navigation used on smartphones.

However, the Apple TV version is centred on viewing. Users should not assume that every Instagram feature, including all posting, editing and messaging tools, is available through the television app.

Instagram Expands Its Television Strategy

Instagram’s arrival on Apple TV follows a gradual expansion of its television-focused video service.

The company began testing its TV application on selected Amazon Fire TV devices in the United States in December 2025. It subsequently expanded its television experience to Google TV in February 2026 and Samsung smart TVs in June.

The broader strategy reflects Instagram’s increasing emphasis on video as a way to attract and retain audiences. By bringing content to televisions, the company is seeking to make its creator videos part of shared viewing experiences at home.

Earlier developments included interest-based video channels and experiments with casting Reels from phones to compatible television devices. Instagram has also explored longer creator videos, episodic programming and live broadcasts for the living room.

The Apple TV launch builds on these efforts by making Instagram video available through another major television platform.

What Apple TV Users Need to Know

Users can check whether the application is available by opening the App Store on a compatible Apple TV and searching for Instagram. The device must be running tvOS 26.0 or later.

The stated software requirement means users do not necessarily need to purchase a new television streaming device if their existing Apple TV supports the required operating system.

Availability and individual features may vary depending on the device, account and regional App Store. Users should check their device’s software version if the application does not appear.

What the Launch Means for Instagram Users

The arrival of Instagram on Apple TV expands the platform’s reach beyond personal devices and gives creators another screen on which to reach viewers.

For audiences, the main benefit is the ability to watch Reels, longer videos and live content on a television, including in shared settings with friends and family.

The move also highlights Instagram’s broader transition towards a video-focused platform. As the company expands across television devices, its ability to offer convenient discovery and content suited to larger screens will help determine how useful the experience becomes for viewers.
