Hyderabad: A jewellery showroom in Hyderabad was allegedly targeted by a seven-member group in the early hours of Monday, with CCTV footage capturing the suspected offenders during the break-in. Police have launched an investigation after a substantial quantity of jewellery was reported missing from the store.
The incident came to light after the building owner noticed that the showroom's shutter was open at around 7 am and alerted the franchise operator. A complaint was subsequently filed with the Medipally police.
CCTV Shows Suspects Outside the Showroom
According to the footage, the group appeared to divide its roles during the operation. Six people remained outside the jewellery outlet while another person entered the premises.
The person inside allegedly broke open display cases and removed jewellery before the group left the location. The entire operation reportedly took only a few minutes.
Investigators are examining the CCTV recordings to establish the identities of the suspects and reconstruct their movements before and after the burglary.
Jewellery Worth Around ₹2 Crore Suspected Missing
K Subrahmanyam, the franchise owner, said an initial assessment suggested that approximately 300 to 400 jewellery pieces could be missing.
The suspected value of the stolen items is around ₹2 crore, although the final figure has not yet been established. A detailed stock verification is expected to determine the exact quantity and value of the missing jewellery.
The reported stolen items include women's gold and diamond ornaments in 9K, 14K and 18K categories. Platinum jewellery was reportedly not part of the outlet's inventory.
Police Begin Detailed Investigation
Following the complaint, police personnel and a clues team visited the showroom and collected evidence from the scene.
The Malkajgiri Commissioner of Police has formed five special investigation teams to identify and trace the suspects. CCTV footage from the jewellery store and surrounding areas is being examined as investigators work to determine the group's movements and possible escape route.
Authorities are also expected to examine other available evidence as part of the investigation.
Insurance Cover Reportedly in Place
The showroom's franchise owner said the outlet has company insurance. However, the exact financial loss will depend on the final inventory assessment and the investigation into the missing stock.
For now, police are focused on identifying the members of the suspected gang and determining how the group gained access to the premises.
Investigation Underway
The CCTV footage has provided investigators with an important lead in the case. With multiple suspects apparently involved and several teams working on the investigation, authorities are examining the available footage and evidence to establish the full sequence of events.
The final value of the stolen jewellery and the identities of those responsible are expected to become clearer as the investigation progresses.
